In other words, this is uterosalpingography. This X-ray shows up the view in video instead of a still picture and this kind of X-ray is known as fluoroscopy. Doctor will fill your uterus and fallopian tube with contrast material to get a clear view. It is also used to detect the reason behind the repeated miscarriages. Small dose of ionizing radiations is used to produce a clear picture of inside your body.

HSG is mostly performed in the first half of the menstrual cycle. Speculum is device which will be inserted in the vagina, so cervix can be viewed clearly and at the end of cervix, local anesthesia will be injected for pain relief. This process can be little painful. While performing HSG, water soluble contrast material is to be filled in the uterus, it contains dye which provides a clear vision in the X-ray. That dye shows the boundaries of size and shape of the uterus and fallopian tube. The fluid may cause mild cramping. You will be asked to make some movements to detect the blockage.
